If your smile is prone to tooth decay, we are thrilled to tell you that there is a way to protect your chompers each and every day! Dental sealants are strong, reliable products that will keep cavities and other dental issues from harming your teeth in any way.

Who should get sealants?
Generally, children are encouraged to protect their teeth with sealants. This is because their smiles are often more vulnerable to tooth decay. However, adults are more than welcome to protect their molars with sealants if their molars are cavity and filling free!

How are sealants applied?
First, your dentist will thoroughly clean and dry the tooth that is receiving the sealant. Then, she will roughen the surface with an acidic solution. This will help the sealant bond to the tooth. Next, your dentist will rinse and dry your tooth once again. Finally, she will paint the sealant onto the surface of the tooth and will harden it with a special light.

How long do sealants last?
Sealants generally last up to 10 years. However, if you ever break or chip them, your dentist will be happy to replace them.
